Step by step: pastel pink chrome nails

  1. Prep: push back cuticles, buff the shine off the nail plate and wipe with alcohol so the base coat grips.
  2. Shape: File straight across the top, then soften the two corners with one light stroke so they don’t snag.
  3. Apply a thin gel base coat and cure it.
  4. Paint two thin coats of pastel pink gel color, curing each one.
  5. Add a no-wipe gel top coat and cure it for only half the usual time so it stays slightly tacky.
  6. Rub chrome powder in with a silicone tool or eyeshadow sponge until it looks like liquid metal.
  7. Brush off the loose powder, cap the free edge and seal with a second no-wipe top coat.
  8. Massage in cuticle oil to make the manicure look salon-fresh.

Pro tip: Chrome shows every bump, so a smooth base (or a builder gel layer) matters more than the color.

Pastel pink chrome nails: FAQ

Can you do chrome nails with regular polish?

Chrome powder needs a gel no-wipe top coat to stick. With regular polish you can get a similar shine from metallic "chrome-effect" lacquers, but the mirror finish only comes from powder over gel.

Why is my chrome powder not shiny?

Usually the top coat was fully cured (too hard) or not a no-wipe formula. Under-cure it slightly, then burnish the powder with firm pressure.

Are square nails good for short nails?

Yes — square is the strongest shape for short nails. Softly rounded corners (squoval) keep it from catching on fabric.

Does pastel pink nail polish suit my skin tone?

Pick a nude or pink one or two shades lighter or darker than your skin for a “your nails but better” look; add a warm hint on olive skin.
